Atlas «Paraíso, hoje.»

Pedro Bandeira, Paula Melâneo, Luca Martinucci (eds.)

Circo de Ideias

This book, published by Circo de Ideias, edited by Pedro Bandeira, Paula Melâneo and Luca Martinucci, presents the research carried out within the scope of the Portuguese representation at the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

The Atlas «Paraíso, hoje.» is not just a catalogue of the exhibition, but constitutes one of the main exhibition contents, as an object to be explored at leisure. As a publication, the Atlas comes in two volumes: the Atlas of images and another with all the texts – the curatorial text, with an approach to the project; three essays by essayist António Guerreiro, researcher and architect Maria Manuel Oliveira and artist Nuno da Luz; interviews with four landscape architects, Aurora Carapinha, João Gomes da Silva, João Nunes and Luís Paulo Faria Ribeiro, personalities who have worked directly on the construction of the landscape through design, research and pedagogical experience; and also a list of credits for all the images.

The result of curatorial research, the Atlas explores different ways of thinking about Paradise today, organised around themes such as: experience, regeneration, leisure, networks, return, cultivation, simulacrum or fiction – while remaining receptive to other interpretations that emerged through the submissions received in the Open Call.
